Disposable Cup Deposit System
About The System
This is a system where a certain container deposit fee of \300 will be charged when purchasing a drink in a disposable cup at coffee shops and similar stores. The deposit fee will be returned when the consumer returns the used cup.
As the disposable cup recovery rates fell from 37% in 2009 to 5% in 2018, the disposable cup deposit system was reintroduced on December 2nd, 2022, to solve the issue of recyclable cups being discarded as street trash.

System Implementation
- Stores with an area of less than 10㎡, cashier-less stores operated with vending machines, stores in the customs bonded area of airports and ports, or stores using cotton material are excluded from participating stores.
- Among brands participating in the disposable cup deposit system, deposits cannot be returned to stores that do not use disposable cups.
- For deposits returned to the app, the time for a deposit fee transfer to be completed may vary depending on when an account transfer is requested.
- You may return up to 20 items per day if you return the disposable cups directly to the staff at a store. (There are no restrictions for return collection centers, cup return stations, automated return kiosks, etc.)
- Duplicate returns are prohibited.
- A return may be refused if the cup is damaged (e.g., unrecognizable barcode), or if its content has not been completely emptied.
- A return may be refused if the cup is returned to a different brand store. (All cups are returnable to return collection centers, cup return stations, etc. regardless of its brand.)
